Oil based cleansers are a staple in Korean beauty regimes and the Real Cica Micellar Cleansing Oil from Neogen is my new obsession. What’s not to love about getting instantly smooth and hydrated skin?
But wait. Cleansing oils seem like an unnecessary step in a daily beauty routine, right? Wrong. Dating back to 14th century Asia, cleansing oils are pretty much the most effective way to remove make up and clean skin. Whether they’re used as a main cleanser or as part of a double cleanse, you’ll be amazed at the immediate difference in your skin with a cleansing oil.
Hands up if you’ve used cleansing wipes to take your make up off for quickness. Don’t worry, we can still be friends. Granted, they’re ok as a last resort but they won’t actually effectively clean your skin or improve your complexion like a cleansing oil.
It’s simple, really. A micellar cleansing oil like Neogen’s Real Cica Micellar Cleansing Oil tackles the most stubborn make up (waterproof mascara never seems like a good idea when removing it, does it?) without pulling on your skin. Forget stinging eyes, too. The mild formula of this baby makes it perfect to use around the eyes.
Not going to lie, I feel like I’m cheating a little bit on my beloved DHC Deep Cleansing Oil with this. While the former has a thicker consistency, the Neogen formula is thinner, making it perfect for sensitive skin types. It’s also ideal if I want to really clean my skin without causing irritation if I’m dealing with pesky rosacea flare ups.
Part of their Cica range (I recently reviewed the Neogen Real Cica Pad), this glides across my skin with ease and melts my make up in seconds. It even dissolves my gazillion layers of sun cream… and believe me, that’s quite an achievement. It’s an absolute dream to use! The pump bottle means it’s easy to distribute and reduces product waste.
This mild cleansing oil is ideal to use in the morning or at the end of a busy day. In the evening, I apply a small amount (usually 2-4 pumps depending on how much sun cream or make up I’m wearing) into my hands. I work it gently across my face in a clockwise direction. It’s impressive at how quickly this gets to work. Those days of spending forever removing stubborn make up or mascara are over.
It’s easy to wash off with lukewarm water and it doesn’t leave behind any residue. My skin is immediately refreshed and so much softer. I don’t always drink eight glasses of water a day so I’m delighted this plumps up my skin to compensate. I highly recommend this as one of the best Korean cleansing oils for sensitive skin!
Thanks to small micelle particles in this cleansing oil, which quickly break down make up while eliminating dead skin cells and clogged pores, I can get a glowing complexion. Just like my skin care idols BTS.
A key ingredient is cica, also known as centella asiatica extract to help reduce skin irritation and soothe redness. Basically, a beauty saviour if, like me, you have rosacea. I’m so happy Korean skin care can help reduce redness! Cica is also a great anti-ageing ingredient as it encourages collagen production. Madecassic acid is found in cica and is famous for its anti-inflammatory benefits so this cleansing oil is definitely suitable if you have acne-prone skin!
According to the Naked Chemist, another skin-boosting ingredient allantoin tops up the levels of water in our skin. Particularly helpful in colder months when moisture levels can drop due to central heating and changes in weather.
Additional moisture is provided by olea europaea (olive) fruit oil, which is full of fatty acids to protect skin from environmental damage as well as skin ageing. Glycine soja (soybean) oil is packed with vitamin E, which has antioxidant properties and softens rough skin. Hyaluronic acid and sodium hyaluronate both help boost complexions and prevent dehydrated skin.
