I was SUPER excited to use BaByliss Curl Secret. As a self-confessed beauty junkie I love trying out new products but aside from my fast hair dryer (a must-have for my long hair) and straighteners I’m a novice when it comes to hair devices.
I’ve never been particularly impressed with anything that curls my hair. I’ve used curling tongs, a three barrel tong (one of the fiddliest things to use EVER!) and although I’ve been fairly successful with curling wands, my hair never holds the curls.
Until now. I’ve read a lot of positive reviews about the BaByliss Curl Secret and couldn’t wait to try it. It uses a revolutionary auto curl technology to create smooth and shiny curls. I’ll admit I’d previously delayed purchasing it because I was sceptical about buying another curling device for my hair after so many disappointments.
However, I was convinced to buy one after a friend of mine said it worked wonders for her. I was curious to see if it would do the same for me…
BEFORE…
Before using a device for my hair I normally apply heat protection cream but that’s not advisable with this curler because it might interfere with the curl formation. You can use a curling mousse or heat protection spray before your hair is dry. As long as your hair is completely dry before you use Curl Secret you’ll be fine.
If you’re nervous about lack of hair protection don’t worry, the curler has an advanced ceramic coating to smooth and protect hair.
First, PLEASE make sure you keep the velvet side closest to your head.
It works by automatically gently drawing hair into the curl chamber where it’s momentarily held and heated to form a curl. It’s better to separate sections of hair, roughly 3cm wide at a time. If your hair is naturally curly or you have longer than shoulder length hair (hello!) it’s better to curl smaller sections.
Note: If you try to curl larger sections of hair, the device beeps and rejects the hair. I say this from experience. The first time it rejected my hair I freaked out and thought my hair was going to be frazzled!
Although it’s not recommended to use on hair length below the bust, if you have longer hair you could try and curl the ends first. If you have shorter to medium hair you can place the curl chamber closer to the roots but because my hair is longer I placed it below the ear. It’s CRUCIAL to comb each section of hair through properly before you put it into the chamber. Nobody wants knotted hair do they?
AFTER…

Lovely waves!
It heats up in a matter of seconds. There are two heat settings (I started off on the lowest before I was courageous enough to use the higher setting) and I’ve noticed that the higher temperature is better for my thick hair.
There are three different time settings, 8, 10 and 12. Setting 8 creates loose waves and will beep three times when hair is curled. Setting 10 leaves hair with soft, bouncy curls and beeps four times and setting 12 creates tighter, more defined curls and beeps five times.
Hair is heated from every direction to ensure the curls look natural. No WAG hairstyles here (yay!). Once hair is secured, keep the handles closed together until you hear the appropriate amount of beeps. This tells you your hair is curled. Until I heard all four beeps I was terrified my hair was going to be tangled.
To reveal the curls, gently release the styler and slowly pull it away from your head. The chamber pulls in the hair so quickly, I initially panicked! It took me about 30 minutes to curl all of my hair but I’m sure I can get this down to 20 minutes with more practise!

My hair brushed out
I’m pleasantly surprised at how effective BaByliss Curl Secret is on my hair. Due to the length I didn’t think it would work properly but it produces beautiful curls. I love how my hair looks after using this even if I brush the curls out a little. I would definitely recommend it!
