I ADORE Korean lip tints and when I heard about Korean actress Lee Sung-kyung’s (starring in Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo) collaboration with Laneige, I was powerless to resist buying a couple.
Laneige’s original Two Tone Lip Bars have been popular for a while but up until now I’ve managed to avoid buying any. Believe me, it’s very hard not buying every new Korean beauty item, particularly when you’re trying to work your way through the mountain of things you already own. Am I right? Of course I am. You’re all shaking your head in agreement right now.
Now that’s settled let’s get back to Laneige’s new Two-Tone Tint Lip Bars..
Unlike the original Laneige design, the new style features a darker/stronger colour in a triangle shape and the rest of the bar is a lighter shade. The aim is to create the perfect two tone lip effect. Sounds perfect.
I didn’t know which colours to buy so I opted for a natural shade (Tint Mint) and a vampy colour (Cherry Milk). Both colours are Sung-kyung’s favourites.
Tint Mint is a beautiful colour. It glides onto my lips and delivers a subtle Korean gradient lip effect. It’s the perfect daytime shade.
Note: I don’t always like to wear an overly strong shade for my lips during the day… I’ve actually been asked in the past whether my lips are bleeding when I’ve worn a strong lip tint. I tried explaining the Korean gradient lip effect but unfortunately, it was a losing battle. Oh dear…
Cherry Milk is equally stunning. I’m not going to lie, I’m a little obsessed with it. So much so, that I’ve even started wearing it during the day. If someone wants to think my lips are bleeding rather than understand Korean beauty, that’s up to them…
The lip bars are super easy to use. All I need to do is apply the strong tint of the triangle shape to the inside of my lips and gently press them together. See, I told you it was easy.
If I want a more intense colour, I simply reapply the darker shade. The other part is a hydrating nude balm. This is a great solution to previous years of having to separately apply lip balm and blot a darker colour onto the centre of my lips (oh, however did I cope?!). This moisturises and protects my lips at the same time.
I think the contrast between the two colours is more noticeable in Cherry Milk because the darker part is such a strong shade. I love it. Both lip bars have a lovely berry scent. Ingredients include extracts of blueberry, cranberry and strawberry. Yummy!
An important thing to remember when using these is to ALWAYS exfoliate your lips first. If you don’t, you’ll end up with a patchy application and nobody wants that do they?
Overall, I would definitely buy these again. I’m already thinking about buying a few of the other colours.
