If you fancy a colourful beauty look for summer why not accessorise your hair with kawaii inspired hair barrettes?
I’ve always been fascinated by kawaii fashion and beauty. Kawaii means cute or adorable and is a very popular trend in Japan. I was inspired by Kawaii culture for this hairdo and got creative with cute hair clips.
After washing my hair I prepped it with a smoothing cream, to protect it against heat styling and smooth any dry ends. I loosely separated sections and lightly curled them with a curling iron to give my hair extra volume.
Once dry I created a tight braid on one side and secured it at the bottom. Hair elastics can cause fragile hair to split, particularly at the ends so I secured the braid with a cute kawaii barrette.
To make it look more colourful I added several barrettes in different styles and sizes across the whole braid. In the early 90s Courtney Love and Kat Bjelland wore baby barrettes and the ones I’ve used are from various shops, including the children’s sections of high street shops but you can also buy them from eBay.
