Having rosacea doesn’t mean you have to forget about using exfoliating products on your skin. While it’s important to avoid harsh facial scrubs, which can aggravate symptoms, if you suffer from rosacea, you should still exfoliate.
I love using the Bio-Peel Gauze Peeling Lemon Pads from Neogen in my regular skin care routine to gently exfoliate my skin. During a recent visit to my dermatologist in Ljubljana to have laser treatment for my rosacea, she recommended the Dr. E. Voss HYA 4 Bio Clear Leave on Enzyme Peeling Gel for my sensitive skin. Being the total beauty junkie that I am, I bought one. In the largest size, obviously.
A gentle enzyme peel for rosacea
Dr. E. Voss was keen to create a skin care range to respect the skin’s needs while protecting and caring for it. Part of the HYA 4 Gels line, these German professional skin care products aim to treat the deeper layers of the skin and reduce wrinkles and skin problems like dark circles, broken capillaries on the face and rosacea.
Designed in a lightweight and hygienic airless bottle, this leave on enzyme peel is free from emulsifiers, paraffin, silicones (which can block pores) and perfume. It has a fairly short ingredients list with active ingredients so it’s perfect for even the most sensitive of skins.
It contains skin-boosting sodium hyaluronate to deeply penetrate the skin and increase moisture levels. This peel is rich in humectants (high in water to instantly hydrate the skin) like pentylene glycol and1,2-hexanediol to leave skin feeling smoother and softer for longer. Papain is derived from papaya and this plant-based enzyme gently dissolves dead skin cells.
How often do I apply this enzyme peel?
This is so fun to use. I like to apply it once or twice a week and when I do, I strip back the rest of my evening skin care routine to ensure it’s more effective. After cleansing my face with an oil cleanser and a foaming cleanser, I pat my skin dry with a cotton pad and apply an appropriate amount of the gel to my face, tapping it in gently. I pay more attention to problematic areas or where my skin is congested (across my nose and cheeks).
It glides on my skin with ease and doesn’t feel tight on my skin. As soon as it’s on, my skin feels instantly refreshed and soothed. It’s like my face is wrapped in an aloe vera sheet mask. Incredible.
Following my dermatologist’s advice, I leave it on overnight. I use an eye cream and nothing else. I must admit, as someone with multiple steps in their daily skin care routine, it’s strange only using a few products when I use the Dr. E. Voss HYA 4 Bio Clear Leave on Enzyme Peeling Gel. Because this enzyme peel is extremely gentle, no aftercare is needed. I simply wash it off with lukewarm water the following morning and continue with the rest of my morning routine.
I love how much smoother my skin looks. The pores on my nose look less congested and overall, my skin looks and feels softer and more radiant. I’d definitely buy it again on my next trip to Slovenia!
