I’d like to think that regularly using sheet masks is going to make my skin as dewy as Japanese gymnast Ryohei Kato (who happens to be my new beauty inspiration). Ryohei, if you’re reading this, we must exchange notes on skin care! A few gymnastics tips wouldn’t go amiss either…
I honestly don’t know how I coped without sheet masks before. Extremely popular in Asia, sheet masks are an essential part of the infamous 10 step beauty regime. They’re inexpensive, portable and can dramatically improve your skin.
My love affair with sheet masks started years ago when I came across them in Croatia and Slovenia and has developed into a full-blown obsession after researching Korean and Japanese brands. I recently counted how many sheet masks I own, 325!
I’m so impressed with them; I now apply one a day. I previously used them a few times a week but after several weeks of daily use, I’ve noticed a big improvement in my skin. It’s not as dehydrated and is less prone to blemishes. My skin isn’t as red either.
I bought these sheet masks from Mask House in Newcastle. I bought so many that the owner looked extremely confused as to why I wanted such a large amount.
She looked even more puzzled when I discussed why they’re so good for my skin. I could tell she didn’t know much about sheet masks. This amazed me, surely it would beneficial for her customers if she familiarised herself with the products she is selling.
Here’s what I bought…
I Need You Collagen Mask, Etude House, £1.39
My new favourite sheet mask. It makes my skin feel fresh and moisturised.
It contains hydrolysed collagen to boost skin and promote a youthful appearance. Other ingredients include extracts of grapefruit, peach and honeysuckle.
It’s extremely lightweight and makes my skin glow even if I haven’t had eight hours of beauty sleep. I’ll definitely buy this again!
It’s Real Squeeze Mask Pomegranate, Innisfree, £1.49
This is very refreshing to use. It firms my skin and makes it look more radiant. The lovely scent of pomegranate ensures this is a real pleasure to use.
It also contains green tea, tangerine and cactus extracts to further protect and nourish skin. My skin definitely looks healthier using this.
I Need You Korean Ginseng Mask, Etude House, £1.39
This mask has a very strong scent of Korean ginseng. It claims to promote a youthful complexion by boosting tired skin. I love it.
This immediately makes my skin glow as well as look smoother and firmer. It’s perfect to use when my complexion needs a boost. I’m already thinking about stocking up before the cold winter weather starts!
It’s Real Squeeze Mask Manuka Honey, Innisfree, £1.49
Manuka honey is known for its skin-boosting properties, which is why I eagerly bought this sheet mask. It’s wonderful.
It has a sweet scent and makes my dehydrated skin disappear straight away. My skin feels plump and moisturised. I often suffer from irritated skin and this contains soothing green tea and aloe leaf extracts.
I’m Real Red Wine Mask Sheet Pore Care, Tony Moly, £1.69
First of all, how cute is the packaging of this sheet mask?! It’s lovely and soothing. It has a wonderful smell too!
As the name suggests, this includes red wine extracts to further boost skin. Other ingredients include green tea and rosemary leaf.
My skin always looks younger and more radiant after using this. My pores are noticeably clear and less congested. My skin is tighter, which helps give me a healthy complexion.
It’s Real Squeeze Mask Green Tea, Innisfree, £1.49
Green tea is a fantastic ingredient to soothe irritated skin. Perfect if you suffer from redness or rosacea (like me). This sheet mask repairs my skin if it’s feeling dry or sensitive. It takes away any redness. J’adore.
I Need You Coenzyme Q10 Mask, Etude House, £1.39
Coenzyme Q10 (also known as ubiquinone) is great for reducing wrinkles and boosting skin and helping to stimulate collagen production. This mask makes my skin glow so much it looks as if I’ve had a spa trip!
Although this is lovely and nourishing with ingredients such as peach and grapefruit, I’m not sure I’d buy it again. It contains BHT (butylated hydroxytoluene), which is an ingredient I prefer to avoid.
Crystal All-in-one Mask (Argan), Junico, £1.39
This sheet mask does it all. It whitens my skin, keeps it clean and tackles fine lines. My face feels immediately tighter and less congested. It contains nourishing argan oil to protect skin and adenosine to calm any irritations.
Moisturizing Essence Facial Mask, Dr Morita, £1.39
I have a confession to make: I bought this after I saw a guy buying a box of them in Mask House. His skin was absolutely amazing (definitely like Ryohei Kato’s) and I was intrigued to see if this would work for me.
This has an amazing scent of rosa damascena (one of my favourite beauty ingredients) and it’s a pleasure to use. Whenever I use this, my skin is extremely moisturised. I’m not even kidding.
My skin often feels dehydrated so this mask is perfect for me. It feels clean and refreshed afterwards. It also gives me a translucent complexion, which I love. This is definitely going to be a repeat purchase!
Crystal All-in-one Mask (Aloe), Junico, £1.39
Like the argan sheet mask I’ve previously mentioned, this sheet mask whitens skin and improves fine lines. This one contains soothing aloe vera to soothe and protect (which is a blessing when my skin flares up) as well as moisturising hyaluronic acid and collagen for an extra boost. I love this!
Charcoal Element Mask, Mask House, £1.39
Charcoal is wonderful for removing toxins from our skin so a sheet mask with it as a key ingredient sounds delightful, doesn’t it?
This is excellent for removing excess oil and cleaning my skin. I noticed my complexion was brighter after just one use. I’m impressed! I know it helps fight oily skin but I wish it was a bit more moisturising.
I Need You Pomegranate Mask, Etude House, £1.39
Much like the Innisfree pomegranate mask, this makes my skin brighter and smoother as well as super moisturised. It has sweet, delicate smell. I’d definitely buy this again.
Innisfree It’s Real Squeeze Mask Strawberry, £1.49
This instantly made my complexion brighter and more youthful. I love the subtle strawberry scent. It’s very lightweight on my skin.
It contains niacinamide to brighten and improve the skin’s overall texture. My skin is noticeably more moisturised and isn’t as red across my cheeks when I use this. Definitely going to have to buy these in bulk…
I Need You Bamboo Mask, Etude House, £1.39
This aims to tackle dry skin and soothe skin. Although it has honeysuckle extracts as well as bamboo (good ingredients for boosting moisture), it didn’t do much for my skin. I’m a little disappointed with this one.
I Need You Royal Jelly Mask, Etude House, £1.39
I’ve never used a beauty product containing royal jelly but I’ve heard it’s very good for the skin. When I used this, my skin was in dire need of TLC. It was red with a few blemishes.
I’m amazed at how quickly this gets to work. After using it I noticed my blemishes were hardly noticeable and my redness had disappeared. Wow, I’m very impressed!
As well as royal jelly, it also includes extracts of honeysuckle flower and ginkgo biloba leaf. I can’t wait to buy more!
