Having a food intolerance can make food shopping an absolute nightmare. Particularly when it comes to treats such as biscuits and cakes.
As I’ve previously mentioned, I have multiple food intolerances and shopping for groceries is a sad experience when everything I look at is off limits. I don’t want to resort to eating something that doesn’t agree with me but surely there must be a nice range of free-from cakes to enjoy?
Fortunately, there’s a fab selection at Holland & Barrett. I’m a big fan of this health shop and I’m thrilled I can stock up on some yummy treats.
Although the dried fruit and herbal tea are available in most stores, I found the other items in this food haul on their website.
Here’s what I’ve been enjoying…
Glorious Goldenberries, £3.85
Many jelly sweets contain citric acid so I no longer eat them. To satisfy my sweet tooth, I’ve turned to goldenberries. They’re sweet and tangy. Very yummy.
Organic Green Tea with Coconut 20 Tea Bags, Heath & Heather £2.49
I love drinking green tea. It has anti-ageing properties and contains polyphenols, which help protect our skin from harmful free radicals (which can cause skin damage and speed up the ageing process). This coconut flavour is delightful. It’s caffeine-free too!
Delicious Dates, £3.19
Dates are great energy boosters, which makes them a lovely snack. It’s always good to have a supply of these.
Cacao Brownie, Squirrel Sisters, £2.49
I’ve always loved chocolate brownies but it can be challenging finding something free-from that actually tastes good. Fortunately, these brownie bars re delicious and nutritious. Made with 100% natural ingredients and raw cacao, the latter of which is filled with magnesium, iron and flavonoids (filled with anti-oxidants), these are perfect.
(These are also celery-free, cereal-free, crustaceans-free, egg-free, fish-free, gluten-free, kiwi-free, lupin-free, mustard-free, mollusc-free, sesame seed-free and wheat-free)
Coconut & Quinoa Cookies, Rice Mice Cookies, £2.49
I. Adore. Quinoa. Seriously. I have so much love for it. It’s a staple in my diet. Hence why I jumped at the chance to buy these coconut and quinoa cookies. Oh my goodness, how these did not disappoint! They’re lovely and light.
(These are also celery-free, cereal-free, crustaceans-free, egg-free, fish-free, gluten-free, kiwi-free, lupin-free, milk-free, mollusc-free, mustard-free, nut-free, peanut-free, sesame seed-free, soya-free, sulphites-free and wheat-free)
Brownie, Cookie Shots, The Foods of Athenry £2.99
As I’ve already mentioned, I LOVE chocolate brownies. These mini cookies are my new favourite thing (after Korean beauty products of course!). Made with wheat-free flour comprised of maize, rice, potato, tapioca and buckwheat), they’re the perfect bite-sized chocolatey treat.
(These are also celery-free, cereal-free, crustaceans-free, egg-free, fish-free, gluten-free, kiwi-free, lupin-free, milk-free, mollusc-free, mustard-free, peanut-free, sesame seed-free, soya-free, sulphites-free and wheat-free)
Organic Cacao Brazilnut Bliss Spread, Raw Health, £4.49
I’m intolerant to hazelnuts so there goes pretty much every chocolate spread. Oh dear. I’ve searched high and low for an alternative to Nutella and I’ve finally found it. This is ideal to spread on free-from crackers and can be enjoyed at any time of day. I’m hooked.
(This is also celery-free, cereal-free, crustaceans-free, egg-free, fish-free, gluten-free, kiwi-free, lupin-free, milk-free, mollusc-free, sulphites-free and wheat-free)
Organic Blissed Chocada Truffles, Raw Health, £2.49
Nothing says luxury like truffles. Most commercially available ones contain ingredients I can’t eat and I’d almost given up looking for them until I found these. Made with dates, raw cacao paste, raw cacao powder, agave syrup and virgin coconut oil, they’re divine. I’ll definitely buy these again.
(These are also celery-free, cereal-free, crustaceans-free, egg-free, fish-free, gluten-free, kiwi-free, lupin-free, milk-free, mollusc-free, mustard-free, peanut-free, sesame seed-free, soya-free, sulphites-free and wheat-free)
Organic Fruity Coconut Energy Balls, Raw Health, £1.99
Like the above truffles, these are a lovely, luxurious treat. Ingredients include raisins, desiccated coconut, dates and sunflower seeds.
How about you? Are there any free-from goodies you enjoy? I’ve love to know!
