Aside from a high factor sun cream (hello factor SPF 50+) and a good pair of dark sunglasses, a UPF hat is a summer staple for me. I believe in being safe in the sun. Sun protection clothing can often leave little to be desired in terms of style but these lovely hats are fashionable and fully protective in the sun.
UPF stands for Ultraviolet Protection Factor and this applies to protective clothing, swimwear and accessories while SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor and is a rating used for sun cream.
I always pack straw hats with me on summer holidays. I have pale skin and although I follow my sun cream regime religiously, I like to shield my face during the hottest parts of the day. This is particularly important if I’m at the beach or walking around in the heat.
When I spotted these sun hats in Tk Maxx and I snapped them up immediately! All three sunhats offer UPF 50+ which block 97.5% of the sun’s UV rays. Although they have such a high level of protection it’s still advisable to wear sunglasses, sun cream and protective clothing.
The blue Scala one is ideal for travelling because it’s foldable which makes it an absolute dream to pack into a suitcase. The Magid hats are great to wear with a smarter outfit.
Blue Scala sunhat, £12.99
