To coincide with the Shoes: Pleasure and Pain exhibition currently showing at the V&A in London I’ve decided to raid my own wardrobe for some of my favourite shoes. It should be noted that this was rather difficult because I have quite a few pairs.
In no particular order…
1. Jeremy Scott for Adidas bear trainers (main image)
What’s not to love about a sparkly teddy bear at the front of a pair of trainers? This quirky autumn/winter 2013 design have a glittered sole… they’re so perfect!
2. Vivienne Westwood for Melissa black rubber shoes
Not only are these super comfortable (tres important if I’m on my feet all day) but because they’re a classic style they go with anything. They are definitely my go-to shoes in an emergency.
3. Kenzo espadrilles
I adore Kenzo and these bright pink espadrilles have the tiger face on the front that the brand is most famously known for. Did I mention that I like big cats?
4. New Look heel-less platform shoes
They might look like instruments of torture but they are surprisingly not as bad as they look. I usually wear them for events and I always get lots of compliments with these because of the unusual design.
5. Jones silver boots
I’m a huge The Mighty Boosh fan and much like Noel Fielding, I have a penchant for silver shoes and boots. I wore these when I met Noel and Julian Barratt at a book signing in London and as soon as Noel spotted them he said how much he loved them. Result!
6. Saint Laurent ballet pumps
Every girl needs a pair of ballet pumps for everyday wear. They’re perfect if you don’t know what to wear (a common struggle) because they go with everything from skirts to dresses.
This Saint Laurent pair have a sturdy heel (ideal if you’re heavy on your feet) and because the leather is buttery soft they don’t hurt my feet.
7. Nylon Magazine for Nike trainers
These trainers are from Nylon Magazine’s 2013 collaboration with Nike. They came in a variety and colours and you could even create your own pair. I wanted something vibrant so I designed mine in jade green.
8. Syu Shu purple platform shoes
I was sent these for a fashion photo shoot and I haven’t stopped wearing them. The deep purple shade is very regal and I’d like to think Marie Antoinette would wear a similar pair!
9. Irregular Choice wooden platform shoes
As soon as I saw these I felt obliged to buy them, I couldn’t bear to leave them in the shop on their own. I must admit I rarely wear them but they are great for fashion photo shoots and to admire. After all fashion is art, right?
10. Vivienne Westwood silver shoes
As previously mentioned, I love silver shoes so there was no way I wasn’t going to buy these. The strap detailing is wonderful as is the shape of the front of the shoe. It’s a typical Vivienne Westwood design and it doesn’t get much better than that.
