This week’s Look of the Week is a love letter to one of my favourite fashion trends, modern day punk fashion, which I shot in Ljubljana. The deserted Bokalce Castle seemed the perfect location for me to wear this eclectic look.
Inspired by Villanelle’s pink dress in Killing Eve
I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s been obsessed with BBC One’s hit Killing Eve, starring Jodie Comer and Sandra Oh. Aside from being hooked on the cat and mouse story, I fell in love with the clothes on Killing Eve (excluding the prison outfits, obviously!). Remember that scene when she wore the exquisite Molly Goddard pink tulle gown? Said dress has been on my mind for months.
Which is exactly why I couldn’t resist snapping up this beautiful lilac mesh dress from The Ragged Priest. Lilac happens to be my favourite colour, too. There’s something so effortlessly chic about this dress and it’s also a nod to another fashion trend I love, Harajuku fashion.
I love the oversized shape and tiered sections. It’s so Villanelle and the perfect example of the eccentric fashion style you know me for! Because it’s made from delicate mesh, it’s ideal to throw on over literally anything. From leggings and an oversized top, or a fitted dress and tights, you name it, this dress is perfect.
Contrasting the romantic style of this lilac number, I layered a David Bowie print dress from independent designer Charles of London underneath. Not only is it emblazoned with a picture of the iconic singer but it also has silver squares on it. So pretty.
To match the lilac colour, I added a vintage lilac top I bought at the Worth the Weight Vintage Kilo Sale in Newcastle earlier this year.
Biker chic style
I toughened up my look in true punk fashion with a biker leather jacket from Urban Outfitters. You may know I love wearing clothes I’ve had in my wardrobe for years and I’ve had this for at least seven or eight years! A classic black leather jacket never goes out of style.
I love light up accessories and when I saw this incredible pink light up bag from Cyberdog in Camden it was love at first sight. It’s transparent so I make sure my valuable aren’t on show (safety first!) and put everything in stylish cosmetic bags. I like to think I brought a touch of eccentric Camden fashion to Ljubljana with this outfit.
I wore this bag to see the Christmas lights being switched on in Ljubljana city centre and it was a huge hit with locals. I even heard one girl comment, ‘What a cool bag!’. Hvala!
Chunky platform shoes are my life and I can’t resist buying more. This YRU pair are the highest pair I own (they have a four inch heel and a three inch platform). I know what you’re thinking but they’re really comfortable. I’d wear these over skinny stiletto heels any day!
