I’m sure I’m not the only one who takes fashion inspiration from the 90s. After all, the decade had so much to offer: platform shoes, ripped jeans, inflatable backpacks and of course, Cher Horowitz’s matching plaid.
My latest Look of the Week combines Korean inspired style and clothing and accessories that are so 90s, they practically scream Clueless.
Korea meets Clueless style
Koreans are always ahead of fashion trends and oversized coats are everywhere across the country. Seriously, from the streets of Jeju to the cosmopolitan cities of Busan and Seoul, I couldn’t escape them. Not that I wanted to. I spotted this one from Plainpage in Jeju and fell in love with it immediately. It’s so cosy to wear and I adore the beautiful khaki green shade. I just wish I’d bought more!
Bright pink is an excellent partner for khaki green and this tie-dye effect pink shirt from Zara is super pretty. Oversized and made from a lovely lightweight material, it offers a comfortable fit. It’s ideal to dress down with ripped jeans as I have here or wear tucked into a fitted black skirt.
Accessories to step out in style
I’m total shoe hoarder and it goes without saying that I’m obsessed with ugly trainers. Honestly, the weirder shoes look, you can guarantee that I’ll be drawn to them. Nine times out of ten I’ll probably buy them.
The iconic pink Triple S trainers from Balenciaga are a work of art. They have a chunky sole and beautiful pink detailing. I bought these last summer and the fact that they sold out in the UK pretty much straight away (and were later rereleased) shows how amazing these Balenciaga chunky ‘dad’ trainers are.
Although they’re chunky, they’re extremely comfortable and are easy to wear with fitted trousers and jeans. Here, I’ve paired them with socks from the Kenzo x H&M collection in a complementing pattern.
Taking inspiration from 90s fashion, I’ve accessorised with a clear mini bag from Liars & Lovers. You may remember from a previous LOTW that I’m no stranger to a clear bag and this one totally reminded me of something Cher Horowitz would wear. Like many of you, I’m a huge Clueless fan and I’m delighted transparent bags are a key spring/summer 2019 trend.
I’m thrilled faux pearl barrettes are in fashion. They’re so pretty and are easy to wear on their own or with other barrettes for a unique look. I recently bought this one from Asos and paired it with a tortoiseshell slogan hair clip from Glamorous. Featuring the word ‘drama’ on it, it seems fitting for this Korean inspired LOTW because I’m a huge fan of Korean dramas. Thin delicate rings from a boutique in Insadong, Korea add the perfect finishing touch to my outfit.
All that’s left to say is “Rollin’ with the homies” as you dig out your best 90s inspired pieces from the back of your wardrobe!
